Patti Smith, the legendary musician/writer, had created a poster with her hand raised and the word“vote” scribbled on the palm with ink. It inspired me to create a new painting, collaborating with her to leave her handprint and script“vote” message on top of a gradient painting. We released it five days before the election, with the five fingers representing the countdown. Though I am not an American citizen, and therefore cannot vote, I still wanted to find a way to make an impact, and so I focused my efforts on getting people to believe in the power of their vote through art.
